Web Standards

My website follows the web standards. The only thing in my website that doesn’t validate is when I am using CSS 3. All of my document have the correct doctype declaration. The site includes the necessary parts including: Doctype, html with a XHTML namespace declared, head and title, and body. All tags are enclosed. All of my elements and attributes are lowercase. All my attribute values are in quotes. My elements are nested in the proper order. There is no attribute minimalization

Usability

I have implemented many of the ideas from the “Don’t make me Think” book. It follows conventions of other websites like the logo in the top left hand corner and the title at the top. Also the primary navigation is just below the title, and each tab changes colors when you hover over them and also changes color when it is selected to give you the “I am here feeling.” And last of the footer at the bottom. The title, logo, navigation are all consistent on every page of my site, so you know where you are at. Also my links and tabs look obviously clickable so one doesn’t wonder if you can click it.

SEO

My website follows the naming rules:
• That is no capitals in folder or file name
• No spaces
• Easy to remember because it is a website about me and the URL is my name.
• Short and meaningful
• No special characters, &%$##*
• All are entirely lower case
When I add a title to all my individual webpages, I make sure that my website name is included in everyone. Also try to put the name of website in my URLs to increase my raking in search engines. When I search marcbriggs.net on Google, it come up as one of the first choice.

ROI

Following web standards, usability, and SEO help with your return on investment. By following web standards assures that my site will be loaded properly on web browsers , because if it doesn’t load right then people become frustrated and won’t return. Also by improving usability will help people stay on your site longer and assure that they will return; otherwise, they will leave your website shortly and won’t return. The SEO is probably one of the most important for ROI because people can’t find information from a search engine about my website, then they my site will never be visited and won’t return anthing.
